Kharkiv is one of the frontline cities where, during the full-scale war, rubble from bombed buildings is being cleared, remains are sorted, and what is safe and possible is recycled into secondary raw materials. For this purpose, thanks to the Government of Japan through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), as well as the Howard Buffett Foundation program, a modern facility for processing construction and demolition waste has been operating in the city since 2024.
In the Nakypilo radio podcast "General Plan: Reconstruction," they discussed how Kharkiv is organizing this work, what technologies are being used, and what plans exist for expanding this activity.
Special attention was paid to the issue of laboratory quality control of the obtained secondary raw material fractions, which is critically important for their further use in construction mixtures and materials.
International experience in waste management was also discussed — in particular, approaches that are successfully applied in Japan and Germany.
