Organic Waste Composting Site

CONSTRUCTION OF AN ORGANIC WASTE COMPOSTING SITE

The initiative aims to reduce waste disposal volumes, cut greenhouse gas emissions, and produce eco-friendly compost.
More about the project

Municipal Enterprise "Municipal Company for Waste Management" of the Kharkiv City Council (hereinafter - ME "MCWM") is initiating the implementation of a project to set up a modern site for composting organic waste. The project involves the biological processing of food scraps, leaves, grass, and other organic materials using controlled processes of aerobic decomposition involving microorganisms.

The goal of the project is to reduce the volume of disposal of the organic fraction of municipal solid waste, cut greenhouse gas emissions, and produce high-quality compost to be used as an eco-friendly fertilizer for the city's infrastructure and community landscaping needs, as well as for market realization of its surplus, including outside Ukraine.

The project will allow to:

reduce the load on the Landfill and extend its operational life;

lower the costs of maintaining green areas through in-house fertilizer production;

create additional jobs and increase the community's capacity in the circular economy sector;

implement modern eco-friendly bio-waste management practices in accordance with European standards.

ME "MCWM" invites international donors and partners to participate in financing the project within the framework of support programs for recovery, green transformation, and sustainable infrastructure development.

Educational and Technical Cluster for Safe Disposal of Medical Waste

ESTABLISHMENT OF AN EDUCATIONAL AND TECHNICAL CLUSTER FOR THE SAFE DISPOSAL OF MEDICAL WASTE

The initiative is aimed at introducing modern technologies for the collection and processing of medical waste.
More about the project

Municipal Enterprise "Municipal Company for Waste Management" of the Kharkiv City Council (hereinafter - ME "MCWM") plans to create an innovative educational and technical cluster for the safe disposal of medical and other hazardous waste with thermal energy generation based on the Municipal Solid Waste Processing Complex.

The project has a strategic nature and combines environmental, educational, social, and economic components. It envisages the introduction of modern disposal technologies (controlled thermal processes, biological purification, multi-level filtration), the creation of a centralized system for the collection and processing of medical waste, and the production of thermal energy for heating the utility buildings of the Complex based on circular economy principles.

Within the cluster, it is planned to:

modernize infrastructure and install specialized equipment (furnaces, bioreactors, filtration systems, power generators);

create a monitoring and environmental control system for disposal processes;

conduct educational programs and training for managers and technical staff;

organize informational campaigns for the public;

develop partnerships with international companies and expert organizations in the field of hazardous waste management.

The implementation of the project will reduce the risks of soil, water, and air pollution with hazardous waste, create a controlled system for its processing, increase the environmental safety of the region, and ensure the sustainable development of the community's critical infrastructure.

ME "MCWM" invites international donors and partners to cooperate in the format of grant, blended, or investment financing for the implementation of this strategic environmental project.

Construction of a Solar Power Plant on Reclaimed Lands

CONSTRUCTION OF A SOLAR POWER PLANT ON RECLAIMED LANDS

The initiative will allow combining renewable energy with the ecological rehabilitation of territories.
More about the project

Municipal Enterprise "Municipal Company for Waste Management" of the Kharkiv City Council (ME "MCWM") is initiating the implementation of a project to build a ground-mounted solar power plant with a capacity of 1.4 to 7 MW (the optimal configuration is determined additionally) on reclaimed and conserved land plots of the Landfill after the disposal of municipal solid waste.

The goal of the project is to create an innovative energy model to meet the needs of the Municipal Solid Waste Processing Complex in the city of Kharkiv with the possibility of selling surplus electricity to the grid. The project involves the use of lands technically unsuitable for other economic turnover, which allows combining renewable energy with the ecological rehabilitation of territories.

The construction of the SPP will allow to:

provide the Complex with an additional source of affordable and eco-friendly electricity at a reduced (discounted) cost;

effectively use the reclaimed areas of the Landfill without disrupting their ecological stability;

increase the energy independence of waste sorting and recycling facilities;

sell surplus electricity at the "green" tariff to finance the development of waste sorting and recycling infrastructure, maintain the condition of reclaimed lands, and increase the financial capacity of the community;

reduce the load on the Landfill and extend its operational life;

provide backup power to critical infrastructure during periods of power system damage due to shelling or extreme weather events.

For the Kharkiv territorial community, the project will become an example of an integrated approach to waste management and renewable energy development, will help strengthen energy resilience, reduce CO₂ emissions, and form a modern circular economy model.

ME "MCWM" invites international donors and partners to cooperate in the format of grant, blended, or investment financing for the implementation of this strategic infrastructure project.
